GUYZANCE HALL
Northumberland

Grade II Listed
ROLE:
Creative Traditional Designer 2016 to present
THE BUILDING:
Guyzance Hall is a medium sized country house set on the River Coquet in Northumberland and taking in exceptional views and countryside. The Hall originated in the C 18th and underwent several piecemeal transformations to establish it as an estate summer hunting lodge, much of the alteration work of the early C 20th was unresolved and presented the owners with the challenge of adapting the Hall to C 21st living.
PROJECT SCOPE
Design Philosophy: To devise imaginative design proposals that ambitiously change the listed building to create a home that is both historic and meets the highest expectations for C 21st sustainable living.
Chris was appointed by and worked closely with Jonathan Hanne Dodd to develop proposals for the demolition of a substantial but incongruous section of the listed building, designing in traditional stye a new two storey block of accommodation, providing dual aspect family kitchen and living space that take advantage of both external spaces and views and provide comfortable bedroom accommodation above. The second component of the proposal was a new swimming pool and facilities located in the walled garden, connected to the Hall and opening on top a sunken terrace garden.
Chris and team worked closely with Harry Shipley and Rebecca Burrows to successfully negotiate ambitious changes and interventions to the listed building and curtilage structures.
